Category: Pet of The Week

Meet Simba!

AGE: Simba, our lion king, is a handsome 10-year-old ginger boy who is looking for his own peaceable kingdom.

PERSONALITY: It’s hard to ignore this charmer – especially when he turns his beautiful blue-ish green eyes on you, asking for attention.  If the eyes don’t do the trick, he will call out to you in a voice which he probably thinks is regal and commanding, but actually sounds like it could use a bit of WD-40.  Definitely makes you smile!

HIGHLIGHTS: Don’t pass up Simba because of his age.  He’s a youthful, personable cat, and a champion cuddler who gets along with the other kitties in Kitty Korner and is always looking for a human lap to curl up on. This king of the jungle wants a new best friend! Could it be you?

AVAILABLE: At the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S Pacific Hwy, Phoenix.  Open 11am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 4pm weekends.

ADOPTION FEE: Only $25, and includes a free wellness visit at a local veterinarian office.  Simba is neutered.

Meet Cruise!

AGE:  Cruise is a 12-year-old Chihuahua mix who is looking for a quiet retirement home.

PERSONALITY: Once he gets to know you, you’ll have a little shadow and a cuddle buddy. He can be a little nervous in new situations, and can get startled by fast movements, like children running around, so a calm and predictable household would be a great match.

HIGHLIGHTS: Cruise plays well with other small dogs and is looking forward to find spending time with you.  His adoption fee has been prepaid by a generous donor.

AVAILABLE: At the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S Pacific Hwy, Phoenix.  Open 11am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 4pm weekends.

ADOPTION FEE: Prepaid, and includes a free one-hour in-home training and a wellness visit at a local veterinarian office.  Cruise is neutered.

Meet Stellone!

AGE: Stellone is a particularly handsome 3-year-old shorthair black kitty.  He sounds like a tough guy, but is actually a sometimes timid, very sweet gentleman cat.  And yes, his meow sounds like he’s yelling, “Adrienne.” (No, not really!)

PERSONALITY: After being surrendered to the Shelter, it took him awhile to feel comfortable.  Now he resides happily in Kitty Korner with its pleasant outdoor catio, where he plays well with other cats, and loves getting attention from volunteers and visitors.

HIGHLIGHTS: Stellone is one of those softies who rolls over and presents his tummy, and then goes on to snuggle on your lap when he knows he can trust you.  Give this boy some time to adjust to a new home, let him know he is safe, and you will have a purr-fectly delightful companion kitty for years to come.

AVAILABLE: At the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S Pacific Hwy, Phoenix.  Open 11am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 4pm weekends.

ADOPTION FEE: $50, and includes a free wellness visit at a local veterinarian office.  Stellone is neutered.

Meet Calypso!

AGE: Calypso is a sensitive 1-year-old Shepherd mix who was living on the streets and is looking for a warm, secure home to call her own.

PERSONALITY: She is a real a sweetheart once she warms up, and will be content sitting next you as you build trust with her.  She plays well with other dogs and would benefit greatly from having a doggie playmate.

HIGHLIGHTS: Calypso will need a patient adopter who will slowly introduce her to new things and give her sense of home. She is treat-motivated, takes them gently and knows how to sit! Continuing her training will help you build a close bond.

AVAILABLE: At the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S Pacific Hwy, Phoenix.  Open 11am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 4pm weekends.

COST: Adoption fee: $120, and includes a free in-home, one-hour training and a wellness visit at a local veterinarian office.  Calypso is spayed.

Meet Kit Cat!

AGE: Kit Cat, king of the jungle, is a big 7-year-old ginger boy who has been patiently waiting at the shelter for almost three months for his new home!

PERSONALITY: He is picky about his feline friends, but had a great relationship with one of the other cats in Kitty Korner who was adopted, so it’s possible he’ll be OK as a 2nd cat … but most likely will want to be the Alpha cat.  Kit Cat has a sweet heart and likes attention in the form of gentle pets, scritches and the occasional one-on-one discussions; and he’s polite about letting you know when he’s done.

HIGHLIGHTS: Kit Cat has spent a lot of time outside in the Kitty Korner Catio, stretched out on a ledge, soaking up sun, but is equally happy inside, curled up on his cozy pillow. He’s a handsome dude who sure would like a home of his own with a patient cat-savvy person who will give him plenty of time to adjust and who won’t take it personally when he wants some alone time.  Come down to the shelter to meet his royal highness.

AVAILABLE: At the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S Pacific Hwy, Phoenix.  Open 11am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 4pm weekends.

COST: Adoption fee: $50, and includes a free wellness visit at a local veterinarian office.  Kit Cat is neutered.
