special events

Each year, Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS) participates in dozens of special events. We march in parades, set up adoption tables each Saturday at local businesses, promote monthly low-cost shot clinics, and much more. Enjoy this gallery of photographs taken at our special events. If they inspire you, call 541.944.2021 or E-mail FOTAS for more information about joining our volunteer program.

Puss 'n Boots

Every year in late October since 1991, animal lovers from all over Southern Oregon and Northern California gather for the Halloween party we call Puss 'n Boots. All proceeds benefit FOTAS' programs serving homeless pets.

At Puss 'n Boots, partygoers enjoy a gourmet buffet and desserts, a cash bar, music and dancing, costume contests, the chance to bid on hundreds of nifty items donated by local merchants, and much more. Puss 'n Boots has been voted "most fun fundraiser" by readers of a local magazine.

Community Outreach Events

These events, which are primarily held on the weekends, introduce FOTAS and the Jackson County Animal Shelter to the public in a positive way. When possible, shelter animals accompany volunteers to these events to serve as ambassadors, to attract attention, and to interest the public in adoptions. Volunteers offer materials, such as FOTAS and SNYP brochures, foster family flyers, the Scoop newsletter, and special event flyers.

TV Dogs and Cats

Each week, FOTAS volunteers showcase adoptable dogs and cats on two local TV stations, KTVL 10 and KDRV 12. This outreach and publicity program reaches thousands of viewers per week, helping to increase adoptions at the Shelter.

Lucky Dogs on Parade

Several times a year, FOTAS volunteers lace up their shoes, leash up a Shelter or Lucky (adopted) dog and head down the streets as part of the Ashland 4th of July, Eagle Point 4th of July, and the Ashland Festival of Light parades.

Vaccination Clinics

The third Saturday of each month, FOTAS volunteers assist the Shelter staff and a local veterinarian at a low-cost vaccination clinic. Hundreds of citizens come to the Shelter with their pets to take advantage of the cheap and easy way to keep their pet healthy and licensed. It is a fun and hectic day we all look forward to helping out at.

Ashland and Medford Dog Washes

Each summer, FOTAS volunteers wash hundreds of dogs at our annual Medford and Ashland dog washes. The Medford Dog Wash is held at North Medford Pet Country in July. The Ashland dog wash is held at the Ashland Community Food Co-op in August. Together, the dog washes raise thousands of dollars for FOTAS and are popular community outreach events.
