On Saturday, May 16th, the Jackson County Animal Shelter is scheduling a modified “By Appointment Only – Drive-Thru Shot Clinic.”

This will be limited to pet owners needing their dog’s rabies vaccine and license.

No puppies, cats, or kittens will be scheduled/vaccinated.

The dog owner MUST call the Shelter at 541-774-6654 before May 16 to make an appointment, so the staff can stretch out the number of people coming in over the course of three hours.

Please wear a mask and please be on-time.

Pets who are ill, on antibiotics, in heat, or on cortisone products cannot be vaccinated.

Vaccines and Licensing
Vaccinations available for dogs (CASH ONLY as this goes to the veterinarian) are: Rabies ($10 for each rabies vaccine) and Distemper/Parvo booster ($15). All dogs six months of age and older are required by law to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed.

Dog license fees (Check or Credit/Debit Card, or Cash), vary based on the dog’s neuter/spay status, and there is also a discount for veterans and seniors 62 years and older. When calling for your appointment, ask the staff about the fee for your dog(s).

The Process
People with appointments will be directed to drive into the large transportation lot next door to the shelter and wait in line in their cars. The owner will be asked to step out of their car with their dog on a leash. Depending on the behavior of the dog, it will be vaccinated with either the owner holding it or a volunteer will hold the dog. Then the owner will get back in the car with their dog and drive to the regular public lot in front of the Shelter and park for licensing. Once there, the owner will have the option of either going into the lobby (maximum two people in the lobby at a time) to purchase the license or a volunteer will carry the yellow copy of the rabies certificate, along with payment, into the Shelter for processing while the owner stays in the car. This is the shelter’s first attempt of this “drive-thru” concept since the Covid-19 health alert arose, and we’re asking for everyone’s cooperation to help ensure organized processing while maintaining physical distancing.

In the event of rain, a canopy will be set up in the vaccination area.
