    CAT FOSTER

Cat Foster Program

What it Means to be a FOTAS Cat Foster Volunteer

Fostering saves lives, and Friends of the Animals is always in need of new foster families for cats and kittens.

You can provide a “home-between-homes” for kittens that are too young to spay/neuter, and adult cats that, through no fault of their own, need to find a new, permanent loving home.

FOTAS provides supplies, training, and plenty of support, and we take care of finding them new homes. Requests are emailed to foster families, and you raise your hand when it is convenient for you and your family to foster.

Foster homes can already have cats and dogs. Sometimes homes with kids are fabulous, and sometimes a quieter environment is better. It all depends on the animals’ needs.

This is a wonderful and personal way to help save homeless pets. Please apply to become a foster today!

How to Become a FOTAS Cat Foster Volunteer

  1. To become a cat foster volunteer, you will first submit an application online or in person.
  2. Once your application is received, the Cat Foster Coordinator will call you for a short interview. This is a chance for us to get to know you, and for you to get to know FOTAS.
  3. From there you will attend an in-person orientation where we will go over all there is to know about fostering cats with FOTAS.
  4. We will schedule a home visit where the Cat Foster Coordinator will come by to better understand what kind of cat personality you would match well with and answer any specific questions you might have about bringing a cat into your home. Our Cat Foster Handbook (PDF) is full of helpful information.
  5. Once these important steps are completed, you will be part of our foster community and will begin receiving requests to foster!
  6. You and FOTAS will work together to find your foster’s forever home, a life-changing experience for everyone!

Still have questions? Please contact the FOTAS Cat Foster Coordinator.

Cat Foster Handbook

Our Cat Foster Handbook contains valuable information including advice and techniques recommended by our veteran foster volunteers, as well as methods found to be successful at foster programs all over the country. This handbook should be considered a reference for anything and everything foster related.

Other Volunteer Opportunities in the Cat Foster Program

Feline Fair Support

FOTAS holds monthly Feline Fairs where we come together with other cat welfare organizations to get rescued kittens and cats adopted. From set-up through adoption we need volunteers. This is a rewarding opportunity to help save dozens of kittens and cats all in one day.

Our Cat Foster program is making a difference!

FOTAS partners with other feline-rescue nonprofit organizations in our community to help an even greater number of cats/kittens by providing these organizations with foster families and medical and spay/neuter support.

FOTAS’s cat program now includes monthly adoption events coordinated with the other cat rescue groups. With five organizations participating, we have been averaging 30-50 cats and kittens at each monthly event.

For updates on these monthly events, please visit the FOTAS Feline Fair page.
